With Helen Yeomans
May 23rd - 30th 2019
Paros Creative Holidays welcomes acclaimed choir-leader and award-winning songwriter, Helen Yeomans. She will again lead a 'Harmony Magic' week where participants are skillfully brought together to sing beautiful songs in harmony.
The repertoire of music will be broad, covering simple chants, gospel rockers, world music and some of Helens heart-felt original songs for which she has become well-loved. Even those of you who have never sung before will be amazed at the sound you can make - Helen has been described before as an 'alchemist'!
Says Helen "In all my years of teaching songs I have very rarely come across anyone who really struggles with singing. Not only can the vast majority of people sing in tune but sing in harmony too. It's one of the most rewarding aspects of my work to bring people out of their shell and express themselves through their voice".
Helen will also offer the opportunity to help her group choose a song to arrange in a special Song Arranging workshop. So if you've always wanted to sing an acappella harmony version of Bob Marley / Adele, here's your chance!'
Helen Yeomans is the founder and leader of Glorious Chorus. She writes and/or arranges all the songs that the choir sings and runs workshops around the UK and abroad teaching her award-winning compositions. Helen is also the director of Thula Mama Ltd, teaching songs to mothers and babies, and has franchised groups around the UK.
Helen returned to music after a 25 year absence when she had a yearning to sing. To her surprise, she found that not only could she sing but she could write songs too. Writing choral music was the ideal outlet for her creativity, which she could do around all her children, and it was only a matter of time before she formed her own choir. Thus, Glorious Chorus was born.
Glorious Chorus soon gained a reputation for original songs and passionate performances, and for Helen it was like a dam bursting open. "When I finally have some time to myself, I find songs come pouring in from nowhere," says Helen. "It’s as if all life’s experiences and stories were meant to have expression in song, and I feel honoured to have the opportunity to bring them alive." Glorious Chorus’s reputation has taken the choir around the country, including performances at Glastonbury festival, The Isle Of Wight Jazz Festival and Port Eliot Festival. The choir was also a finalist at the inaugural Orchestra In A Field Festival amateur choir competition 2012. Helen has also been touring her original One World choral theatre show – a moving and uplifting tapestry of song, spoken word, percussion & choreography, focusing on the crossroads at which the human race presently stands. One World was performed at Hull in 2017, as part of the City Of Culture celebrations, and this year, 2019, Helen performed the show in London to sell-out audiences.
Helen's song 'Awaken' was chosen as a featured performance piece at 2009's 'Sing For Water' annual fundraiser at London's South Bank, as part of the Mayor's Thames Festival. Helen's songs were also chosen to be performed at the Brighton Fringe Festival in 2008 and 2009. In 2006 Helen’s song ‘Goddess’ was an Honourable Mention Winner at the Unisong International Songwriting Competition. She is now in demand for commissioned work and has worked a lot with the Hull Freedom Choir for events and festivals. In 2015 Helen won the gospel category prize in the UK Songwriting Contest, an international competition receiving over 7,000 entries.
What sets Helen apart, however, is that no matter how perfectionist she is with her songwriting and how great her achievements have been with Glorious Chorus, she is most loved for being able to bring out the best in all singers – from the professional to the absolute beginners. Her ability to infuse groups with her passion and humour is a joy to witness as is her ability to touch her singers with the emotional core of the beautiful songs she has written. Expect tears and laughter, exquisite music, passion and lots of love.

" I really enjoyed the singing week; Helen was wonderful, I loved the choice of songs; I felt the balance of singing and other activities was great. As well as being a gifted choir leader, Helen created and facilitated a positive group dynamic and was supportive and encouraging.
Stefan and Bethan are delightful, very kind, thoughtful, accessible, sensitive to the needs of individuals and the group. And nothing seemed too much trouble for them."
